Coping Strategies

What strategies do you use to cope with negative feelings?

Strategies I use to cope with negative feelings…

Ooh, I use different strategies – dependant on what and how severe my negative feelings are.

The majority of the time I get my paint brushes out and express my feelings on the canvas. I also write in my journal, splurge all my thoughts and negative feelings on the page.

I occasionally chat with my friends…

More recently, I have expressed my feelings through tears, floods of persistent tears – what a release!!!💧

In the warmer months I will go into my garden and potter around. At other times I go on a cleaning spree in my home, scrubbing and polishing already clean surfaces.

I do, at times sit quietly and have a little chat with myself. Put things into perspective…it’s not all that bad – surely?

Take a deep breath, or three…

Slam the music on and dance 🎶💃

Happy Saturday ❤️

    1. Art and music are great aren’t they? Crying was something I always withheld – until recently! I think I’m crying for all the withheld years now 😭!
It is such a relief…to let go – apart from the big swollen eyes afterwards 😅. I’m glad your cry helped you, and you felt refreshed. 🤗

      1. Same here, I used to try not to cry but then you just end up with years worth of tears! Ice helps with the swollen eyes, get an ice roller and you’ll be fine 🤗😊

  1. It’s amazing how you allow yourself to feel everything and then find ways to process it. The dancing part, love that! Sometimes shaking it out to music is exactly what the soul needs.
Keep doing what works for you!
    Happy Monday, Sara!♥️♥️

  2. Hello Sara, great strategies! We all have ours and it’s a good thing to be able to find something that help release the tensions and stress. For me it’s writing, tyding too. And taking photos. Dancing as well, music loud and no limit in my ow little space!! Have a nice week!

    1. Hi Marie, it’s important we find our own ways to let off steam! It’s good to have a few as well – dependant on mood. Dancing is a wonderful way to really let yourself go, isn’t it?
      Have a beautiful week! 💃☀️

  3. Feels like you managed to get some sort of control over your situation. Yeah I like to draw sometimes to get away from the negativity but when I do whatever I need to it comes back after. Sometimes I try to hide In my sleep as long as I can to hide from facing the day. That to doesn’t work. But I do my best to journal or blog my thoughts. Breathe. Focus on Faith but there are just some days you just don’t have the strength

    1. Yes, I do understand what you’re saying. I too have days where it all feels a bit overwhelming. Talking to someone you trust is certainly helpful. I don’t know if you have tried expressive painting, but that can be a great release.

  4. I wish I could draw and paint, my two left hands 🤣.
Truly effective strategies. Oh that cleaning and mental talking are great anti depressants.
    Have a lovely Saturday 😍 🤩🤗

  5. I love how you embrace so many different ways to process emotions—especially through creativity! There’s something powerful about putting feelings into movement, whether through painting, writing, or even cleaning. I’ve found that expressing emotions through art and reflection brings so much clarity. Thanks for sharing your process—it’s a great reminder to lean into what helps rather than resist it!
