Describe a man who has positively impacted your life.
This song is how I generally feel about the men I’ve experienced in my life.
Nina Simone “No Good Man”

However…
I did have a male friend who made a massive, positive impact on my life!
It was in the summer of 2016. I was at a friend’s house party and I got chatting to a gentleman I’d never met before. We talked art, poetry, education, and a dash of bullshit! As one does after a glass of wine or two.
Anyways… we hit it off, we had a giggle and we connected straight away.
We actually taught in the same College, but he was thirty + years my senior. so, our paths didn’t cross in the work place.
He was a published author and poet. I knew very little about either genres at the time, so he opened up my eyes to the written word. I would also like to believe, I opened his eyes to the painterly art world.
We laughed, argued, debated, danced, sang, wrote, and exchanged our inner most thoughts, feelings, past history, and experiences together. It was a time, we were both…a little lost.
COVID lock-down hit us all. The loneliness, and isolation was awful for many of us. My friend and I stayed connected via text, email, telephone calls, and writing to each other daily. Neither of us had anyone else.
He was the most supportive, non judgmental, kind, funny, open minded man I had ever met. He was the man who encouraged me to write my memoir.
He sadly passed away in 2022 at 83 yrs young.
He was my best friend.
I loved this man dearly, trusted him wholeheartedly, and I miss my creative soulmate terribly!
Hey, this is not a dislike men campaign 😅. I love some of them…sometimes! 😉☺️🤣
PS. This is the first music video, well, any video I’ve linked to a post. So I hope it works. 🤪
And I thought I deleted the AI image!!!!
I think I’m now revealing myself in a comments thread to your followers! #openbutunwise?

Sorry, not sure what that means?

I’m showing my ignorance of WordPress perhaps? Is this exchange between us only visible to us or to anyone?

This will be seen by all on WP.

Well, it’s a pleasure and a privilege to meet a like-minded soul. Perhaps I could email you my number if that isn’t too forward?

I taught English before having a breakdown, thus I can relate a little to that

You will know the pressures of teaching then…

Yes, very much so. It’s a profession that provides so much, a real privilege, but the head was interested in OFSTED only while my head of dept was happy to let a bullying culture develop

Teaching has became money focused, not about education anymore.

I think you’re right, particularly when humanities degree courses are being axed. Students shouldn’t be ‘customers’!

I was an Art lecturer, but I was having to teach the Welsh Baccalaureate….subjects I knew nothing about. They were only interested in creating funds!

My brother teaches the Int’l Bacc abroad, but he has made it his passion. I feel for you to be in that position

It wasn’t me at all! So, do you work now?

Whilst it’s vitally important to remember and knowledge how affecting COVID was in general, as so many seem to want to forget it ever happened (in the UK at least), it’s always a double blow to hear of the passing of someone loved.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. It was a devastating time for so many people (COVID), and the passing of my dear friend was a terrible loss!

We lose a part of ourselves, don’t we? Yes, we know there is always the potential for other, future friends but it can feel like the battle to re-grow a limb i.e. impossible. My step-father passed during COVID – it finished him off but cancer had riddled him unfortunately.

Yes, you are so right.
My friend reacted with the vaccine, had a stroke…but, he too had cancer, and that’s what finished him off! 😔😔

I think Ken, my stepdad, was 83 too. We weren’t close when I was younger but I surprised myself by my reaction to his death: tears, the subject of poems. In many ways he was less than admirable man but. – in a couple of vital aspects – he deserved that honour. Neither poetry nor tears (nor any art for that matter) can be forced in reaction to an event so that must say something about our relationships and characters…?

No problem. Having no idea of your tastes but seeing in your art an open, enquiring mind, I thought you might like it.

Thank you, yes….I am certainly open to new ideas, concepts etc. it was an interesting listen. I feel I need to listen to it a few times to engage with it more fully. If that makes any sense?

That definitely makes sense to me. It may well be that it makes for no sense at all after that😏

It is from a few years ago. Im Puano, which is posted on my site, has my voice in it. It’s a recital of all I despised (at the time of release).

It’s better to give rather than receive but both can provide pleasure. 😊

Is your art a full-time occupation? I use that word not necessarily in relation to a paid job.

I was an art lecturer. I took early retirement as It didn’t give me anytime to paint. Plus, ill health…
So I now paint and attempting to write full time.

Your friend was “old school” and I mean that in the nicest way.
Modern day men could learn a thing or too.
Hold on to those memories my friend.🙏🤗
