‘The Intimate Values Of A House And The Spaces Within It’

The language of houses, homes and their interiors; practically, philosophically and psychologically in artists work.

The theme of house, home and their interiors are used in my art work to represent my own memories of the homes I lived in as a child; not simply in the physical sense, but also in a psychological sense.

This study explores the work of other artists who use this theme in their work. I discovered what led these artists to express their identities, beliefs, memories and lives in the language that represents home.

I also observed the similarities and differences in our concepts of home and in the way we present the home to the viewer.

What is the significance of home to you; practically, philosophically and psychologically?

  1. Sara, I love that you placed a door on the cover of your beautiful book. I think the door of a house is representative of so many things. It is often the object that makes the house for me as well as Ivy or invited greenery. I a so happy for you and your book. I know what an undertaking it is to put together a book and it is a massive work of love.       I’m fascinated with doors, windows and staircases – especially old ones! I really enjoyed researching artists who used inanimate objects within a home to express their inner thoughts and lives through their art work.

    He described a home as a kind of “relationship map.” Strangers stay on the sidewalk, curious folks make it to the porch, and as trust grows, people move deeper into the house—kitchen chats, backyard bonfires, and eventually, the guest room for the real ones. (The bedroom? Well, that’s VIP access only. 😉)

  11. The idea of home is complex. In real life, it gives people a place to live and the things they need. In a philosophical sense, it shows how we are connected to place and community. It is important for our psychological sense of identity and belonging.

  16. My home is the space where my family forged its identity, where we gave ourselves the answers to who we were and sowed the seed of who we are today.
    I only speak Spanish. I use the translator for the languages ​​but I am sure that your book will be received as well as it will be because your talent is undeniable.
