Do you or your family make any special dishes for the holidays?

As a child I was brought up in a Jehovah Witness household. Therefore, we didn’t celebrate any holidays.

Just to clarify, I am not a Jehovah’s Witness!

A JW does not celebrate Christmas, Birthdays, Mother’s Day, Valentines, Halloween, Easter….nothing!

As a child, this was difficult! Difficult for myself, and my siblings…we were outcasts in our community, school, friends…everything!

I now, wholeheartedly, celebrate all of these events, with my friends. ❤️

Roast Turkey at Christmas, lamb at Easter, (oh, and of course…chocolate eggs 🍫🐣😋), cake on birthdays, Mother’s Day (I won’t go into that), Valentines chocolates, and Halloween pumpkins.

Roll on Christmas celebratory dishes! 😋😋😋

  3. In he island we would make our national dish such as ackee and salt fish ,curry chicken and jerk chicken, small food such as bun and cheese would be most visitors favorites to take back with them home

  4. Interesting. I always wondered why they didn’t celebrate anything. Shame but I’m happy you do now 🙂 Roll on mince pies, choc logs, trifle – the works! Yum and of course all those amazing gifts recived and given in love 🙂

  13. Sara I had two JW’s coming to my door for a long time.
    I told them from the get go religion is not for me.
    But they are very pushy.
    One day while having coffee in Costa I flipped, which is not my nature.They were trying to recruit me I know.
    Have not heard from them since 🤗

  14. That’s really surprising! I wouldn’t have guessed that in a million years. I was raised Roman Catholic, so instead of austerity we just had extra helpings of guilt and shame! Now I’m about as shameless as they come! 😜😊 Have a great day Sara!

  16. I had/have/had 🤔 a friend who’s JW. We did have a few discussions around God. They are tough.

  21. I’m really sorry to hear about your childhood – it must have been tough not being able to celebrate the holidays because of your Jehovah’s Witness upbringing. But now is the perfect time to relive those moments and enjoy all the things you missed out on. It’s never too late. And when it comes to chocolate, nothing beats a slice of chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, vanilla ice cream, and a glass of chocolate milk. 😊🍫

      3. Nope, she loves chocolate too 🍫. We don’t have it often, just once in a while. We try not to eat too much, knowing it won’t last long 😂.

      Yes, it was tough as a child, watching the other children celebrate those occasions. But, I certainly make up for it now…all the Christmas tinsel, lights, food etc. I’m a big kid celebrating ✨🤩 now….and all that beautiful chocolate 🍫🍫🍫😍.
