What major historical events do you remember?
The two main major historical events that I remember are:
1. 9/11 Twin Tower attacks.
2. The COVID -19 Pandemic.
An event I would not remember, but a catastrophic major event that occurred here in Wales on 21st October 1966: The Aberfan Disaster.
A disaster that happened at Merthyr Vale Colliery. 150,000 tonnes of coal waste, mud and debris collapsed and slid down the mountain side. The landslide destroyed many homes and buried the village junior school.
144 lives were lost; 116 children and 28 adults. It killed 50% of the towns children.
The disaster became one of the worst coal mining accidents in the UK.
I didn’t know. Thanks for sharing it.

That’s not fair. Those poor children had their futures to build, new stories had to embark for those little lives. The adults left the world on a cliffhanger, keeping us wondering what would happen next. That’s so sad. I hope they rest in peace. And I’m wondering such a thing happened but I never heard about it. It happened before I was born, so that explains but still, it was a major disaster.

Yes, it was a terrible disaster for the whole village, losing so many young lives.

This also raises a question, like so many unfortunate and unjust things take place and we get to know about it, but when? After a decade later. I just want such disasters to get noticed and be made aware of, you know. Life isn’t fair, but still.

It was 9.13am, the children had just settled in school, when the coal tip engulfed the village school. Tragic indeed! 😔

Never heard of such a horrific disaster… But there are many others, especially terrorist attacks that occurred in the US, for example, that are coming out now and no one has ever heard of them, like the Black Tom Island attack of 1916… I will never forget the attacks on Atocha on 11 MAR 2004 (Madrid)…

It was a terrible disaster! As you say, there are so many atrocities that we may not know about or heard of.

Little by little we are being made aware of many things that apparently happened, that were horrible, but that we never knew… Strange, no?

I think it’s always been like that hasn’t it? Need to know, hush hush, lack of communication, bury their heads etc. lots of happenings that we probably will never know.

It certainly is turning out that way. But now that we have more communication available, I reckon that is the reason why many things that we did not know are being revealed. Or it could be something totally different that is causing these revelations… I keep an open mind.

I believe you are correct…communication is in the palms of our hands. But, keeping an open mind is always wise 🤔.
