‘The Body Keeps The Score’

What book are you reading right now?

My GP. Recommended this book to me. It’s taken me over two months to read half of it. It’s heavy reading, but absolutely brilliant!

  1. I’m reading Man’s search for meaning by Victor Frankl it’s a deep book lots of emotional insights and the story is deep and his experiences profound. It’s a classic MUST read. My mom was reading it and I got hooked immediately..

  2. I haven’t read this book, although I’m familiar with the author. I have a book titled The Body Bears the Burden: Trauma, Dissociation and Disease by Robert C. Scaer, MD, whose forward is written by Bessel A. van der Kolk. This book was given to me seven years ago after I experienced a strange and intense negative reaction to EMDR therapy while undergoing PTSD treatment which resulted in an array of inexplicable physical symptoms, some of which still persist today. Scaer’s book was an eye-opener in that it explained the decades-long delay of the physical manifestation of childhood trauma I was suddenly experiencing. I definitely want to get my hands on The Body Keeps the Score. Thanks for sharing, Sara.

    1. I will have to read The Body Bears The Burden.
The Body Keeps The Score focuses mainly on childhood trauma. I too had EMDR therapy. I found it very helpful but it sort of brought out a different set of problems/issues. I’m currently waiting for further counselling to address this. I haven’t spoken to many people who have had EMDR therapy (as availability is extremely sparse) so I’m really pleased you commented on this.
Thank you for sharing your experience Mike!

  3. I’ve read it too, and agree it’s brilliant. I’m wanting to read Peter A Levine now. What they have to say about trauma held in the body gives a whole new understanding as to why suffering is still present.
